Custer(1967)

Custer is a military-western series that aired on ABC for 17 episodes from September to December 1967. Wayne Maunder stars as Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, recently demoted after the Civil War and now commanding the Seventh Cavalry at Fort Riley, Kansas. His regiment is staffed with misfits, former Confederates, and criminals, creating constant friction with his superior officer, General Alfred H. Terry, who clashes with Custer over his unconventional tactics and appearance. As Custer leads expeditions against Sioux forces, he contends with scouts like California Joe Milner and faces off against Chief Crazy Horse. The series features a supporting cast including Slim Pickens, Michael Dante, and Peter Palmer as a former Confederate sergeant. The show was cancelled before its narrative could reach the historical Battle of the Little Bighorn, ending the story well before the actual events of 1876.
