Phoenix(1992)
Phoenix is an Australian police drama that aired on the ABC in two thirteen-part seasons during 1992 and 1993. The first season follows detectives investigating the bombing of Victoria's state police headquarters, inspired by the real Russell Street Bombing of the mid-1980s. Created by Tony McDonald and Alison Nisselle, Phoenix earned critical praise for its unflinching depiction of police work—surveillance, forensics, and investigative procedure rendered with documentary-like precision. The series distinguished itself through a dark visual aesthetic and willingness to portray violence and language without restraint. Its success led to a second season in 1993 and a spin-off, Janus, exploring the court system. Both seasons are available on DVD as a four-disc box set.
