Supernova(2005)

Supernova is a British comedy series following Dr Paul Hamilton, a Welsh astronomer who abandons his tedious academic life and failing relationship to take a job at the Royal Australian Observatory in the remote outback. Produced by Hartswood Films and commissioned by the BBC and UKTV, the show mines comedy from Hamilton's struggle to adapt to outback living alongside his bizarre fellow astronomers. The first series of six episodes aired in October 2005 across the UK and Australia, with a second series following in August 2006. Shot partly on location at Broken Hill in New South Wales, the observatory itself is a CGI creation, with only a partial doorway built on site for filming. Supernova balances fish-out-of-water humour with the quirky personalities of its cast.
