Ground Swell: The Other Side of Fear is a documentary that explores why big wave surfers risk their lives chasing mountain-sized swells. Following the 2021-22 season, the film tracks elite surfers Nic Von Rupp, Kai Lenny, Matt Bromley, Torrey Meister, and pioneering female surfer Bianca Valenti as they confront their deepest fears at some of the world's most dangerous breaks. From Nazaré in Portugal to Jaws and Pipeline in Hawaii, and Mavericks in Northern California, these athletes push beyond the limits of human courage to discover what lies on the other side of terror. The film asks a simple question: what compels someone to paddle into waves that could kill them? The answer lies in the pursuit of transcendence through fear itself.
