Rätselhafte Venus is a documentary that explores one of archaeology's most iconic artifacts: the 29,000-year-old Venus of Willendorf. This ingeniously carved limestone figurine offers a window into Paleolithic life and challenges long-held assumptions about early human societies. Through analysis of the statue and archaeological finds across Austria and the Czech Republic, the film investigates what the Venus reveals about gender roles, community structure, and daily life in the Stone Age. Was she a fertility symbol, an idealized woman, or something else entirely? Evidence suggests Paleolithic women were far more active than traditionally believed—hunters of large game, keepers of knowledge, and full participants in their communities.
