Spring in January(2019)

Spring in January is a Yugoslav drama set during and after Nazi occupation in Belgrade. Families hide in underground chambers producing weapons for the resistance, but their profiteer leader Mark continues the operation long after the war ends, spreading false reports of German victories to maintain his wealth and control. Mark manipulates his best friend Crni into staying hidden underground for two decades, partly to keep the woman they both love, Natalia, for himself. When Crni finally escapes to the surface in 1961, he discovers a shocking truth: Mark has created a propaganda film depicting ongoing Nazi rule to justify keeping the resistance movement—and its profits—alive. The film explores themes of deception, sacrifice, and the psychological toll of prolonged isolation, questioning how easily truth can be distorted for personal gain.
