Gonzaga: From Father to Son is a Brazilian biographical drama following the early life of Luiz Gonzaga, the legendary accordion player and singer who would become known as Rei do Baião. Fleeing heartbreak, Gonzaga leaves his childhood home for the city, where he meets and falls in love with Odaleia. When his wife's health deteriorates after their son's birth, Gonzaga makes the painful choice to leave the boy in Rio de Janeiro with a friend while he travels to build a better future. The distance between father and son hardens into a complicated, fraught relationship shaped by their clashing temperaments. Constructed from conversations between the two men, the film explores how ambition and sacrifice shaped one of Brazil's most iconic musicians, and the personal cost of his legendary career.
