Will Bastion returns home after two decades in the army to bury his father, the former chief of the Maori tribe Ngati Kaipuku. As the eldest son, Will resists inheriting his father's leadership role, leaving it to his younger brother Kahu—a charismatic but reckless gang leader who rides through town with his crew, dealing drugs and causing chaos. When Kahu brokels a dangerous marijuana deal with violent city criminals under the pretense of fighting a land settlement dispute, Will faces an impossible choice.
