The Tree of Love(1938)

The Tree of Love is a Japanese drama following Kozo Tsumura, a young doctor who falls for Katsue Takaishi, a nurse hiding a painful secret: she's a widow with a son. When they plan to escape together to Kyoto, fate intervenes—her sick child keeps her behind, and she misses their departure. By the time Katsue reaches Kyoto alone, Kozo has vanished, and she finds herself rejected by local society. Returning to her hometown defeated, she channels her heartbreak into music, abandoning her hospital work to pursue singing professionally. Her debut single "Aizen Katsura" becomes a hit, and in a moment of unexpected grace, Kozo appears in the audience. The film explores how love, loss, and ambition reshape two lives separated by circumstance.
