The Lost Arcade(2015)
The Lost Arcade chronicles Chinatown Fair, a penny arcade that opened on Mott Street in 1944 and became a New York institution. For decades, the dimly lit venue drew crowds with its famous tic-tac-toe playing chicken and served as a gathering place for a diverse, unlikely community. The arcade survived gang turf wars, shifting entertainment trends, and the rise of home gaming systems that closed most competitors. But gentrification posed an existential threat. As the neighborhood transformed, Chinatown Fair's most devoted patrons fought to preserve the arcade's legacy, pushing themselves to extraordinary lengths to save the place that had defined their lives. The documentary captures a community's battle against erasure and the power of shared spaces.
