The Barber and the Bomb examines a 2004 bombing at a barbershop in Cologne run by brothers Özcan and Hasan Yildirim. On Wednesday afternoon, an explosion packed with 700 three-inch nails injured 22 people. What followed was a bungled investigation that shocked Germany: authorities suspected the victims rather than pursuing leads, ignored CCTV footage, and the interior minister dismissed any far-right connection. For years, the attack remained unsolved. Only in 2011 did the truth emerge when the right-wing extremist National Socialist Underground terror cell was exposed. This documentary traces how institutional failures and prejudice allowed a hate crime to go unpunished for so long, and follows the ongoing legal reckoning with a dark chapter of German history.
