Remote Control is an experimental video art piece that explores power dynamics between artist and subject. Vito Acconci and Kathy Dillon sit isolated in separate wooden boxes, each facing a static camera on different channels. Though they can only see and hear each other via monitors, they attempt direct interaction as if their communication were unmediated. Acconci uses language and gesture to manipulate Dillon's actions from his box, treating her like a subject under remote control. The work becomes a deliberate exercise in dominance and compliance, examining how technology mediates intimacy while revealing the fragile boundary between genuine connection and performative control.
