Angel on My Shoulder(1998)

Angel on My Shoulder is a documentary following actress Gwen Welles (Nashville) through her final years after a 1992 cancer diagnosis. Director Donna Deitch, Welles's close friend, documents her subject's decision to forgo conventional treatment and the physical toll that follows. Shot on video and later transferred to 16mm, the film presents an intimate, unflinching portrait of illness and mortality. It premiered at the 1998 Berlin Film Festival, offering a raw and compassionate examination of one woman's choice to face death on her own terms.
