Rings Around the World(1967)
Rings Around the World follows author John Shawcross as he reflects on decades spent documenting circus life for a book. Through vivid recollections, he celebrates the extraordinary performers who defined the big top: trapeze artists like La Mara and the Flying Armors, daring equestrians including Fredy Knie Sr. and his Lippizaners, and animal handlers from Gunther Gebel Williams with his tiger to Pablo Noel commanding lions. The film showcases an astonishing array of acts—sword balancing, archery, juggling, tightrope walking, and acrobatic feats by the Tongas, Gaonas, and Four Titos. Interwoven with Shawcross's meditations on circus mystique and the dedication of its performers, Rings Around the World captures the romance and spectacle of a vanishing world, presenting a love letter to the golden age of circus entertainment.
