Mitra(2018)

Mitra is a documentary film that weaves together two psychiatric institutions separated by five years and two continents. In 2012, Iranian psychoanalyst Mitra Kadivar, committed against her will to a Tehran hospital, begins exchanging emails with Jacques-Alain Miller, founder of the World Association of Psychoanalysis. Five years later, an artistic team in Aix-en-Provence transforms these intimate correspondences into an opera while documenting life inside the Montperrin psychiatric hospital. The film explores the intersection of psychoanalysis, art, and institutional confinement, moving between Iran's repressive system and France's approach to mental health care. Through Kadivar's words and the creative process unfolding in Provence, Mitra examines how human connection and artistic expression can emerge from isolation and constraint.
