La frisée aux lardons is a French comedy set during a summer in a small Breton port town. Isabelle, a high school graduate, arrives to stay with her mother Micheline, who is being pursued by the charming beach boy Doudoune. Isabelle begins a romance with Pascal, one of Doudoune's friends, while her father—a bored laboratory director from Soissons—makes weekend visits to see his wife, occasionally venturing to Paris in search of romantic conquests that rarely materialize. Back in Brittany, the smooth-talking Doudoune enjoys far better luck with women. When Isabelle's father finally joins the family for an extended stay, his presence triggers a cascade of misunderstandings and comic mishaps that test the fragile dynamics of the household and its various romantic entanglements.
