Cantos Aztecas(1988)
Cantos Aztecas is a live musical performance that brings ancient Aztec poetry to life. Composed and conducted by Lalo Schifrin, the film captures provocative verses written by an Aztec prince over 900 years ago, performed in the original Nahuatl language. Placido Domingo leads an ensemble of 100 orchestral musicians and 120 choir members, joined by soloists Marsha Felix, Conchita Julian, and Nikita Storojev. Recorded at the Pyramid of the Moon in Teotihuacan, Mexico, the performance merges classical music with indigenous heritage in a striking ceremonial setting. The combination of Schifrin's sweeping orchestration and the ancient texts creates an immersive, mystical experience that honors Aztec cultural legacy while showcasing world-class vocal talent.
