Led by dozens of Black men, the Búzios Revolt sought to overthrow colonial rule, declare independence, and establish a democratic republic free from slavery. The movement gained momentum across Bahia as conspirators rallied support for revolution. But authorities discovered the plot before it could seize power. The government launched a brutal crackdown, executing and quartering four of the rebellion's leaders while persecuting hundreds of others. The film captures the courage and sacrifice of men who challenged an entrenched colonial system, even as their uprising was ultimately crushed by the state's violent response.
