Puccini: Il Trittico is a 2007 Modena production of three one-act operas performed together as the composer intended. Puccini insisted the works be staged as a single evening to showcase their essential contrasts: melodrama, sentiment, and comedy. Many theaters have split the trio to avoid the lengthy runtime and complex set changes, but this production honors his vision. Soprano Amarilli Nizza appears across all three operas, playing the unfaithful Giorgetta in Il tabarro, the titular nun in Suor Angelica, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Alberto Mastromarino takes on dual roles as the jealous husband Michele and as Gianni Schicchi himself, anchoring the evening's emotional arc.
