Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste is a German family film about an opera singer who buys a goose for Christmas dinner, only to have his plans derailed by his children's affection for the bird. When Elli, Gerda, and Peterle name the goose Gustje and grow attached to her, they refuse to let their father slaughter the animal for the holiday meal. As the family's protests mount and his conscience wavers, the father finds himself unable to go through with it. The film captures the tender conflict between tradition and compassion, as a simple Christmas dinner becomes a test of the family's values.
