Samurai Assassin(1965)
Here, at the Gates of Sakurada, the Shogunate will fall.
Samurai Assassin is a 1960s Japanese historical film set in Edo-period Japan. In 1860, displaced members of the Mito clan gather outside Sakurada Gate, plotting to assassinate Naosuke Ii, the powerful tairō whose purge left them victims of political upheaval. Driven by vengeance and honor, the samurai prepare for a strike against the Tokugawa shogunate's ruthless leader. The film captures the tension and moral complexity of their mission, blending action with the rigid codes of loyalty and duty that defined samurai culture. Samurai Assassin explores themes of revenge, sacrifice, and the collision between personal honor and political power during one of Japan's most turbulent historical periods.
