Abry(2003)
Abry is a documentary portrait of Lúcia Rocha, the 84-year-old mother of legendary Brazilian filmmaker Glauber Rocha. Facing heart surgery in a São Paulo hospital, Rocha decides to document her life and memories with filmmaker Joel Pizzini, who provides a camera to help her reconstruct her extraordinary past. Through sounds, images, and encounters with the figures who shaped her world, Abry becomes a poetic exploration of Rocha's intimate connection to Brazilian cinema. The film weaves together her recollections with visual storytelling, creating a meditation on memory, family, and artistic legacy. Named after a term coined by her son to represent the unconscious, Abry transforms a medical crisis into an act of creative reflection and personal testimony.
