Cham(1931)

Cham is a Polish drama following Franka, a Warsaw prostitute stabbed by her pimp, who accepts a doctor's offer to work as a maid in the countryside and escape her violent past. There she meets Pawel, a naive country boy who falls for her, marries her despite learning her history, and offers her refuge. But rural monotony suffocates Franka. When Pawel travels, she abandons him for Warsaw, where she becomes a cabaret singer and bears a child with another man. Years later she returns, and though Pawel forgives her infidelity, his suffering is far from over. This stark portrait of desire, betrayal, and rural hardship captures the collision between a woman's hunger for city life and a man's quiet devotion, set against the bleakness of interwar Polish countryside existence.
