Discrimination(2023)

Discrimination is a documentary examining Japan's exclusion of ten Chongryon Korean high schools from its 2013 free high school policy. The government justified the ban on suspicions that education grants would be misused by Chochongryon organizations. Five schools challenged this decision, filing a damages lawsuit against the state in 2013. The film follows the four-year legal battle culminating in the first trial verdict on July 19, 2017, beginning with Hiroshima Chongryon Korean High School. It's a stark look at systemic inequality and how minority educational institutions fought institutional discrimination in contemporary Japan.
