Ishtar is a comedy about two struggling lounge singers whose dreams of stardom lead them into an international conspiracy. After landing a booking at a Moroccan hotel, the pair unwittingly become entangled in a dangerous power struggle involving the CIA, a Middle Eastern emir, and rebel forces plotting to overthrow his government. What begins as a simple gig spirals into a chaotic adventure as the hapless performers find themselves caught between competing factions, each convinced the singers hold valuable intelligence. The film balances slapstick humor with spy-thriller elements as the two musicians navigate political intrigue, double-crosses, and their own incompetence while trying to survive and escape the escalating conflict.
