Rauch(2012)

Rauch is a German drama about Marie, a woman trapped in the monotony of small-town Brandenburg life. Working an assembly line and caring for her ailing mother, Marie has resigned herself to quiet desperation after Thomas, the love of her life, abandoned her to pursue opportunity in the West. When Thomas unexpectedly returns with a new family in tow, Marie's carefully managed existence fractures. The film explores the collision between lost love and present reality, examining how people cope with the paths not taken and the choices that define them. Set against the bleakness of post-industrial East Germany, Rauch captures the emotional weight of longing, duty, and the impossibility of reclaiming the past.
