Descending Stories: A Life In Rakugo is an anime series set in early Showa-era Japan, following Yakumo's journey into the world of rakugo storytelling. After befriending the gifted storyteller Yurakutei and receiving support from geisha Miyokichi, Yakumo works tirelessly to master the traditional art form. When Yurakutei and Miyokichi die in a mysterious accident, Yakumo raises their daughter Konatsu as his own. Years later, a resentful Konatsu—convinced Yakumo caused her parents' deaths—teams up with Yakumo's disciple Yotaro to uncover the truth. As they pursue answers, Yakumo guards a secret that threatens to unravel everything. The series weaves together themes of mentorship, loss, and redemption against the backdrop of a fading theatrical tradition.
