Connected: The Homebound Detective is a Japanese comedy series following Ataru Aida, a reclusive man in his thirties who has never left his childhood home. A lifelong germaphobe and misanthrope, Ataru thrives during remote work but finds his comfortable isolation shattered when he's fired for his abrasive personality. Desperate and broke, he reluctantly takes on a job as a private detective—a profession requiring him to venture outside and interact with clients. The series charts his awkward attempts to solve cases while battling his deep-seated anxiety about the outside world and his complete lack of social grace. As Ataru navigates investigations and human connection, he discovers that detective work might force him to confront the very isolation that has defined his life.
