Les Quarxs(1993)

Les Quarxs is a pioneering computer-animated series created between 1990 and 1993, predating ReBoot as one of the earliest works in the medium. Each episode was produced in HDTV and runs no longer than three minutes. Only twelve episodes of the planned hundred were completed. The series explores mysterious, invisible creatures called Quarxs that bend the laws of physics, biology, and optics. A cryptobiologist discovers these entities as the sole explanation for the world's imperfections. Created by contemporary artist Maurice Benayoun in collaboration with renowned Belgian comic designer François Schuiten, Les Quarxs became Benayoun's only animated fiction work. The series earned widespread recognition at major international festivals including SIGGRAPH, Imagina, Ars Electronica, and Sitges, broadcasting across more than fifteen countries. Its creatures include the electricity-drawn Amperophile, the mysterious Carno-lampire, and the Elasto fragmentoplast, which destroys small objects.
