Best Enemy is a Chinese historical drama following two childhood friends torn apart by ideology and war. In 1939 Shanghai, Chen Ke Hai and Fang Li reunite within the shadowy world of secret intelligence agencies—Chen now a Communist operative tasked with infiltrating No. 76, where Fang leads. As they navigate brutal espionage, failed assassination attempts, and mutual suspicion, their friendship fractures under the weight of conflicting loyalties. Fang places a spy at Chen's side to test his allegiance, while Chen risks everything to relay intelligence to his party. Set against the Japanese occupation and the collapse of Wang Jing Wei's puppet regime, the series explores how war transforms allies into enemies. Their final confrontation after the war forces both men to reckon with the ideological chasm that has consumed them.
