O Sorriso do Lagarto is a Brazilian miniseries adapted from João Ubaldo Ribeiro's novel. It follows João Pedro, a biologist turned fisherman, who falls in love with Ana Clara, an unhappy woman trapped in marriage to Ângelo Marcos, a corrupt Secretary of Health. Ângelo and his mistress Bebel scheme to exploit the pristine island of Santa Cruz through real estate speculation, enlisting the help of local elites Tavinho and Nando. As João Pedro and Ana Clara's forbidden romance deepens, their connection becomes entangled with the island's corruption and greed. The series explores passion, moral compromise, and the clash between simple living and ruthless ambition in a tropical paradise threatened by development.
