Delta(1992)

Delta is a short-lived ABC sitcom starring Delta Burke as a woman who abandons her old life to pursue country music stardom. Burke, best known for Designing Women, dyed her hair blonde for the role and performed her own vocals. The series premiered in September 1992 with strong ratings following Roseanne, but struggled when moved to Thursday nights opposite The Simpsons. ABC pulled the show, brought it back the following spring for six episodes, and ultimately canceled it. Burke returned to her natural brunette hair in a last-ditch effort to boost viewership, but the change failed to save the series. The theme song, Reba McEntire's "Climb That Mountain High," was a deep cut from her 1990 album Rumor Has It. Despite its brief run, Delta earned a Golden Globe nomination for co-star Earl Holliman in the supporting actor category.
