De rugzak is a Dutch reality series following eight climbers as they attempt to summit Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain and one of the seven summits. Led by Sofie Lenaerts, the first woman from the Benelux to complete all seven summits, and wildlife cameraman Pim Niesten, the participants face both physical and mental challenges on their ascent. Lenaerts draws on her mountaineering expertise to prepare the group for the rigours of high-altitude climbing, while Niesten, a nature photographer, educates them about the mountain environment and its inherent dangers. The series documents their journey toward the peak, balancing personal struggle with the raw beauty of East Africa's iconic landscape.
