Prussian Prime Minister Otto von Bismarck rejected Emperor Franz Joseph's vision of a Greater Germany that included Austria, insisting instead on Prussian leadership alone. The series traces the escalating tensions between these rival powers, from their joint campaign against Denmark in 1864 through their decisive split during the German War of 1866.
