Tigers of Europe(1999)
Tigers of Europe is a satirical series that deconstructs myths around Polish capitalism and the obsession with wealth. The show pulls back the curtain on Poland's financial elite, exposing their pretension, snobbery and insecurity. The title references Poland's nickname as a "tiger of Europe"—a reputation built largely on tax evasion, smuggling and financial crime rather than legitimate enterprise. Over a decade, these operators accumulated vast fortunes and created their own culture, one that reveals intellectual emptiness beneath the surface. Director Gruza trains his lens on this world with sharp wit, suggesting that strip away the money and these "tigers" are merely scavengers picking through scraps. The series is a biting critique of greed masquerading as success in post-communist Poland.
