The Goddess of Fire(2013)

The Goddess of Fire is a 2013 South Korean historical drama following Yoo Jung, a character inspired by Baek Pa-sun, the Joseon Dynasty's first renowned female potter. Baek's exceptional glazing skills earned her a position as a royal porcelain maker, but her fame came at a cost. During the 1592 Japanese invasion, she was captured along with other Korean artisans and forcibly taken to Japan. There, under Toyotomi Hideyoshi's rule, she continued her craft and helped pioneer new pottery techniques that would be credited to Japanese art. Despite her displacement, Baek gained respect in Japan, where a shrine in Arita still honors her legacy. The series explores her life, love, and the complex journey of an artist caught between two nations.
