Segodon(2018)

Segodon is a historical drama following Saigo Takamori, a low-ranking samurai from the Satsuma domain whose simple honesty catches the eye of the region's charismatic feudal lord. Inspired by his leader's belief that people's love strengthens a nation, Saigo becomes instrumental in Satsuma's rise to power. The series traces his transformation from obscure samurai to key architect of the Meiji Restoration, chronicling his two exiles, three marriages, and the exceptional bravery that toppled the Tokugawa Shogunate. Yet despite orchestrating Japan's modernization, Saigo ultimately falls in conflict with the very government he helped create. Much of his life remains shrouded in mystery—no authentic portrait of him survives—making this epic tale of ambition, loyalty, and tragic consequence all the more compelling.
