The Stand-in(2014)

The Stand-in is a drama series following Deng Sidi, a poor rickshaw driver in Guangzhou who accepts a lucrative but dangerous job: impersonating Li Chongguang, the son of a wealthy businessman. Sidi soon discovers the boy is dead, and he must maintain the deception to keep the truth hidden. Ou Shuyun, the rebellious daughter of Guangdong's inspector-general and a revolutionary sympathizer, orchestrates the scheme. When Shuyun's father learns of her relationship with revolutionary Chen Shaobai, he forces her into marriage with the fake Chongguang to contain the scandal. Caught between loyalty and survival, Sidi navigates a treacherous world of political intrigue and family secrets in early 20th-century China. Adapted from the 2009 Hong Kong film Bodyguards and Assassins, the series blends historical drama with intimate character conflict.
