Anarhan(2013)

Anarhan is a historical drama set in 1940s Kashgar, where a young woman named Anarxan becomes caught between tradition and desire. When landlord Osman attempts to force her into servitude as a concubine to Commissioner Emin, she refuses, clinging instead to her love for Qurban. Her defiance sparks brutal retaliation. As political upheaval grips the region, the community fractures along ideological lines: colonial officials resist the Communist Party's rise while others, including Raxman, embrace the People's Liberation Army and its promise of liberation. The villagers gradually unite against their oppressors, setting the stage for transformation. Based on a true story, this remake of the 1962 Uyghur film explores love, resistance, and the collision of old and new worlds.
