Fairly Secret Army(1984)

Fairly Secret Army is a British sitcom that aired for thirteen episodes across two series between 1984 and 1986. Major Harry Truscott, an eccentric ex-army officer, attempts to whip a ragtag group of misfits into shape as a secret paramilitary organization. Created by David Nobbs, the writer behind The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, the show mines comedy from Cold War paranoia and the absurdity of amateur espionage. The character and premise originated in Perrin but were reimagined for Channel 4 due to BBC rights restrictions. John Cleese's production company oversaw the first series and handled script editing, while the show notably dispensed with a laugh track. Nobbs took on the project after declining to develop a spin-off centered on Manuel from Fawlty Towers. The comedy balances satire of 1970s conspiracy theories with the bumbling incompetence of its central character and his unlikely recruits.
