Gruby(1973)

Gruby is a Polish series set in 1946, following seventh-grade students navigating their first year at a newly opened school in a small town in the Recovered Territories. The backdrop is post-war Lower Silesia, where settlers struggle to build new lives after the conflict's end. Alongside the students' coming-of-age stories, the series explores the region's turbulent aftermath: Werwolf saboteurs operating in the shadows, looters preying on the displaced, and the broader challenge of assimilation facing families uprooted by war. Gruby balances intimate school friendships and adolescent discovery against the harsh historical realities of reconstruction and survival in a fractured landscape.
