Die Rumplhanni(1981)

Die Rumplhanni is an Austrian drama set in August 1914, as war looms over Europe. Rumplhanni, a maid in the village of Öd, becomes pregnant after a love affair with Simon, son of farmer Hauser. Before Simon departs for the front, his parents reluctantly accept her as a daughter-in-law, offering Rumplhanni a chance to escape her status as an illegitimate servant and become a peasant woman with land and security. But when the old farmer refuses to sign over the property to her, Rumplhanni devises a cunning scheme to secure her future. This period piece explores ambition, survival, and the desperation of a woman determined to claim her place in a rigid social hierarchy during wartime.
