Gigantor(1963)

Gigantor is an American adaptation of the classic 1956 manga Tetsujin 28-go by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. The series follows Jimmy Sparks, a young boy who commands a colossal robot to battle criminals and protect the innocent. Debuting on U.S. television in 1964, Gigantor brought Japanese anime sensibilities to American audiences, though the adaptation softened the original series' violence and localized character names for Western viewers. Like its contemporary Speed Racer, the show blended action-packed storytelling with a child protagonist wielding extraordinary power, becoming a foundational entry in anime's early American broadcast history.
