Gunbuster is a sci-fi anime series set in the near future when humanity encounters a massive insectoid alien race bent on destroying Earth. In response, the world develops giant combat robots piloted by carefully selected young fighters from across the globe. Noriko Takaya, daughter of a legendary deceased space captain, enrolls in pilot training despite her lack of natural talent. There she's paired with Kazumi Amano, a gifted and composed pilot who becomes her unlikely partner. As the two struggle with their contrasting abilities and personalities, they must confront the emotional and psychological toll of warfare while learning to work together to defend humanity's survival against an existential threat.
